How Mongolian tour companies came to be

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Mongolia had only one, state owned tourism company named Juulchin when Mongolia was in the communist bloc countries.  After the social changes of 1990’s people started their own enterprises.

Then, the guides and country managers  working  in Juulchin, who  acquired enough expertise, started their own travel companies.  So we have now about 50 or more travel companies with regular operation.

Today the biggest company is maybe Juulchin still -with a fleet of cars, buses, jeeps and a whole office building.

Ancient human in marmot skin coat found amid Altai mountains

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Last week Mongolian and Russian joint expedition of scientists found a grave of an ancient human who had marmot leather coat, felt boots, and sheep skin pants.

This, according to the scientists who discovered it, is the 3rd ever human remain found with marmot skin coat. Also there was a bowl made from horn. I don’t know how that can be made so. But it is the 4th bowl or utensil made from horn, ever to be found worldwide, they say.

Many other items were found which will make scientists from many fields busy for months or years. They believe now they can study sheep wool property of sheep living 2500 years ago.

Quite an important object with many implications.
